24 Peaces, In brief… 24 Peaces is a journey to meet and experience 24 of the most ‘peaceful’ beings on the planet and paint their energy. Its’ main mission is to connect each human being experiencing the exhibit with their own internal peace and create the possibility of peace in our world. GENE, an artist, plans to meet 24 living peacemakers of our time. A peacemaker has been recognized by the world as a whole as someone who causes peace and harmony in their village, country or world. 24 Peaces, the title, alludes to 24 hours of peace in a day that each of these peacemakers are committed to creating in our world. He will arrange and document on film individual one-on-one meetings with these special souls in our world so that he, and the world, have an experience of what it means to live a peaceful life and/or, be the cause of peace in our world. GENE will then paint the powerful energy of the individuals, either with them during their meeting or shortly thereafter. The finished pieces will be the 24 Peaces collection and travel as part of a documentary and art exhibition to cities throughout the world so that others might experience the peace within their own selves, and identify with the peacemakers, increasing the possibility of peace on our planet. Documenting Peace
Mahatma Ghandi once said, “There is no way to peace. ‘Peace’ is the way.” With this tenant in mind, GENE sought to create a list of “peacemakers”, those human beings that humanity looks to for guidance and solace in our turbulent and troubled world. The list of names extends well past twenty-four. To symbolize the 24-hours that humanity considers a day, GENE narrowed his list to twenty-four to represent that at anytime, any hour of the day, peace is possible.
The documentary will consist of the artist GENE asking the same initial question of all 24 peacemakers, “What is peace?” The individuals’ answer sets the tone for the conversation between themselves and GENE. Questions such as: “Is peace possible in our world?” - “What do people need to do in order to create peace in their lives?” and “What needs to shift for global peace to occur?”, will be a key part of the conversations.
The purpose of engaging in this dialogue with these profound people of peace is to create a ‘peace-making possibility for mankind’ experience for the audience. These unscripted conversations will be mixed with images and footage of our world as we live in it today and impromptu questions from everyday people and children on the streets. After having each conversation, GENE will return to his studio and paint from the peaceful energy he has experienced which will also be filmed footage as part of the documentary. His paintings are meant to give the audience an experience of the art that could come from a peaceful world.
The Artists Journey GENE’s inquiry to ‘peace’ is sparked by his creative passion combined with a heartfelt desire for peace in our world. In speaking with these 24 peacemakers, these people, the artist will interview unscripted, one human being to another. Each of these 24 may not have achieved peace, but rather, they ‘come from’ peace. They exude peacefulness as a way of being, a way of life and the light that guides their presence. In this direct unscripted dialogue it will be clear that peace is possible.
A basic law of quantum physics is that we are all one energy source. At a young age, GENE became aware that we are all ‘energetically’ connected with each other, yet had little comprehension of what it all meant. In his art, he creates the energetic images he experiences with the untraditional style of painting of using such mediums as recycled house-paint, and in the process, creates a voice of freedom and peace in his canvases.
With “24 Peaces”, GENE combines his purpose in life as an artist, with his vision and hope for humanity of world peace. He has now comes to what he believes is a defining moment in his life, the journey to discover what is peaceful energy and what can he create with it. In this journey, he seeks to spark a conversation among humanity, “What is peace?”
